Pawtucket man sentenced to 10 years in prison for fleeing crash that killed passenger

A Pawtucket man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for fleeing a crash that killed a passenger in Lincoln on New Year's Day in 2022. Gregory Miller pleaded no contest to one count of failure to stop after being involved in a crash that resulted in death and one count of driving to endanger resulting in death in April. At his sentencing on Friday, he was given a 10-year sentence at the ACI. He will also lose his license for three years. Police said officers responded to a crash on Cobble Hill Road at about 2 a.m. on New Year's Day in 2022. They found a car on its side and a woman by the side of the road. Investigators said 34-year-old Nanleomariz Albizu of Providence was thrown from the car when it went airborne and struck two telephone poles. She died at Rhode Island Hospital. Miller surrendered to Lincoln police two days later. "Nanleomariz was more than a victim in this case. She was a daughter, a sister, a family member and a friend. She brought love, laughter, and strength to those around her. Her life mattered and her absence has left a void that could never be filled," Nanleoespy Albizu, her sister, said. Miller apologized for his actions in court on Friday. "I never meant for any of this to happen. I love [Nanleomariz] very much," he said. "I’m sorry. I think about her every single day, not a day goes by... I think of her too." The victim's uncle said after the sentencing hearing that Miller should have gotten a stronger sentence. "We would’ve liked to see a steeper, higher sentence. He took a loving soul’s life, and he made a decision that night, and he was reckless, and he simply did not care, just left her there to die," Pedro Espinao said.
