One person injured after plane crash in Saratoga County
One person has died after suffering serious injuries in a small plane crash in upstate New York.The pilot of a plane that crashed at the Saratoga County Airport had died, according to a report from the Federal Aviation Administration. Local NBC station WNYT first reported the news.First responders were called to the Saratoga County Airport on Tuesday around 1:45 p.m. for the reported plane crash. State Police spokeswoman Trooper Stephanie O’Neil told the Albany Times Union that a single-engine plane that crashed on airport property. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which investigates plane crashes, later identified the plane as a Piper PA-25.Fuel from the plane caused it to catch fire, State Police said. The airport was closed after the crash Tuesday.The FAA report shows that the plane was towing a glider at the time of the crash. The glider then pitched up and caused the airplane to flip over and hit the runway, the report said.The pilot was the only person onboard the plane.An investigation is ongoing. Those with footage of the crash are being asked to contact the NTSB at [email protected]. The agency usually releases a preliminary report on its findings within 30 days of a crash.The response to the plane crash also caused a motor vehicle wreck, according to the Times Union. An emergency service vehicle, identified as a 2024 Ford F-150 pickup truck, was headed to the airport at 1:55 p.m. As it approached an intersection heading north, it struck a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was traveling eastbound. Both drivers were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The Albany Times Union is owned by the Hearst Corporation, which is the parent company of NBC5.
