Multi-vehicle crash closes westbound I-80 near Baxter in Placer County
(FOX40.COM) — A multi-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon has led to lane closures on westbound Interstate 80 in Placer County east of Baxter, Caltrans said. Several big rigs and about five cars were involved in the crash and diesel has spilled on to the roadway. Two people sustained moderate to serious injuries, Caltrans said. As of 2:29 p.m., westbound I-80 in the area was expected to be closed for several hours. The California Highway Patrol is turning traffic back at Nyack Road, Caltrans said. Drivers should expected delays and seek alternative routes at this time. CAL FIRE reported a hard closure on westbound I-80 at Drum Forebay in Alta. Officials believe a big rig crashed into several vehicles before leaving the roadway and going over an embankment.
