One person dies after crash involving Charleston Fire Department vehicle

(WOWK) - One person has died after a vehicle crash involving a Charleston Fire Department vehicle on the city's West Side, police say. According to Kanawha County Metro 911 dispatchers, the crash happened just before 6:20 p.m. Wednesday on Lee Street West at Ohio Avenue. A passenger car and a Charleston Fire Department SUV were involved. The Charleston Police Department said shortly after the incident that two people were taken to the hospital, one of whom had critical injuries and the other of whom had minor injuries. Police confirmed shortly after 8 p.m. that one person has died. There is no word on their identity at this time. Dispatchers say the intersection was closed for downed power lines caused by the crash. Appalachian Power's outage map shows an outage in the area of the crash, impacting around 1,093 customers.
