One dead, one injured in northeast Iowa head-on crash

BLACK HAWK COUNTY, Iowa -- One person is dead and another injured following a head-on crash in northeast Iowa on Sunday night. A crash report from the Iowa State Patrol states the collision happened around 7:34 p.m. on Highway 20, at mile marker 224. That's near the southwest edge of Cedar Falls. The ISP said a Nissan Rogue driven by Tracy Leytem, 50, was traveling eastbound when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the center line and struck a westbound Chevy Equinox driven by Abby Hamann, 23, of Grundy Center, head-on. The drivers of both vehicles were transported to MercyOne Waterloo Medical Center. According to the ISP report, the driver of the Rogue, Laytem, of Cedar Rapids, died. Hamann's condition was not listed in the report. The investigation into the crash continues.
