One Dead in Afternoon I-40 Crash in Pender County

One person is dead after a crash on Interstate 40 in Pender County Wednesday afternoon. According to authorities, the crash happened around 3 p.m. near mile marker 393 between Wallace and Burgaw. State Highway Patrol says a Honda traveling eastbound lost control, struck the median cable barrier, crossed through the median, and collided with a tanker truck. The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tanker truck was taken to the hospital but is okay. The crash closed lanes of I-40 for hours while crews cleared the scene and worked to determine what caused the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
