Officer Stephen LaPorta dies while assisting driver on Route 146 in MA
Tragic news struck Uxbridge, Massachusetts as police officer Stephen LaPorta lost his life in a collision on Route 146 early on Wednesday. At the time of the crash, LaPorta, who was 43 years old and a resident of Uxbridge, was assisting a driver on the northbound side of the highway when a tractor-trailer was involved in the accident which led to his untimely death at the scene. The exact cause of the crash remains unknown, but reports indicate icy road conditions in the area due to freezing rain overnight. Remembered as a dedicated officer, LaPorta had served the Uxbridge Police Department since June 2024. Chief Marc Montminy expressed deep sorrow for the loss, emphasizing the risks officers face daily. Grief support is being offered to Uxbridge Police Department members, and flags were flown at half-staff to honor LaPorta's sacrifice. Governor Maura Healey has ordered flags at state buildings to be lowered in memory of Officer LaPorta, recognizing his selfless dedication to public safety.
