Driver airlifted to Indianapolis hospital after striking trailer ramp in rural Madison County

MADISON COUNTY, Ind. — A driver was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital after he struck a trailer ramp in rural Madison County late Wednesday morning. According to the Madison County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called to a portion of County Road 1100 North located just east of County Road 300 East around 11:30 a.m. to investigate a crash. When deputies arrived at the scene, they located an orange 2011 Jeep Wrangler that had been crashed into a soybean field. The Wrangler's driver — a 58-year-old man from Alexandria — sustained serious head injuries in the crash. He was airlifted from the scene to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis to have his injuries treated. After a preliminary investigation, police determined the Jeep's driver was travelling eastbound on County Road 1100 North before the crash occurred. Per MCSD, the crash happened when the Jeep's driver struck a trailer ramp. A truck hauling the trailer in question had been parked in the Jeep-driver's path on County Road 1100 North for a golf cart delivery. Deputies believe the Jeep rolled over at least once after he struck the trailer. Security video obtained by FOX59/CBS4 shows several individuals running toward the Jeep after the crash: MCSD has indicated that its crash investigation team is examining the incident.
