28 people injured after MTA bus crashes into FedEx Office building

Crews are on the scene of a mass casualty event after an MTA bus crashed into a FedEx Office building in Pikesville on Wednesday evening, according to the Baltimore County Fire Department. The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on July 8 in the 1500 block of Reisterstown Road. Around 7 p.m., authorities confirmed that 28 people were injured, with one critical patient extricated from the bus and transported to the hospital. Check out the scene below: A second mass-casualty incident alarm was declared, officials said. A medevac helicopter and Shock Trauma GoTeam were sent to the scene, as well as BGE crews due to downed power lines. Seven other vehicles were involved, including one that rolled over. One person was trapped inside a car. At this time, it's unclear how many people were injured on the bus and how many people in the vehicles were hurt. Howard County and Anne Arundel County ambulances were on scene, and all patients were transported as of 7:18 p.m. The Maryland State Highway Administration stated that MD 140 Reisterstown Road, both Northbound and southbound, between Old Court Road and Sudbrook Lane was closed as crews responded to this incident. Officials said drivers should expect extended road closures and urged them to seek alternate routes. "I've been in this community for over 30 years, this is by far the worst I've ever seen. The worst," Donna Webster, a Baltimore County resident, told FOX45 News. "My daughter used to work right in that FedEx building...It's just so sad hearing about all the casualties, cars scattered all over the place. I've never seen this." "This is a crazy sight to see," Jalen Conaway, a witness, said. "I've never seen cars get damaged like this before...let alone in this area. It's just crazy to see." A Family Information Center Line is open for loved ones to receive updates from officials. That number is 410-887-1151. Gov. We are deeply grateful for our first responders who acted with speed and skill to ensure the safety of our neighbors. We’ve been in close coordination with local officials to provide any support needed on the ground." Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier said in a statement on X that her heart is with everyone affected by the crash and "I want to thank our fire, EMS, and police crews for their swift response and care to those injured. We will keep them and their families in our prayers." Baltimore County Councilman Julian Jones released the following statement: I am in close contact with the Baltimore County Fire Department and our regional emergency partners as they respond to the unfolding emergency following this evening's bus crash in Pikesville." A coordinated emergency response is well underway, and I have every confidence in the first responders working with urgency to rescue those in danger, care for the injured, and bring this emergency to a safe conclusion."
