Officer in Orlando reportedly ran red light before accident causing death of 92-year-old according to witnesses.

Three hours following the airing of WESH 2 Investigates' report on the family of 92-year-old Milagros Ortiz, Orlando Police have announced an internal investigation into the conduct of the officer involved in the crash at Semoran Boulevard and Hoffner Avenue early Sunday morning. The OPD Traffic Homicide Unit is also looking into the incident as Ortiz’s family hopes for potential charges by the State Attorney’s Office. A witness named Jose Rodriguez shared with WESH 2 Investigates that he observed the marked Orlando Police cruiser allegedly run a red light and collide with a vehicle at the intersection. The witness mentioned that the officer did not activate sirens or drive at high speed before the crash. Ortiz, who was in the passenger seat of the car, passed away from injuries sustained in the accident, while her friend who was driving is recovering from bone fractures. Orlando Police identified the officer involved in the crash as 28-year-old Andrew McKuhen, but they have not confirmed whether he was on duty at the time. The investigations into the incident are ongoing, and no further details have been disclosed at this time to maintain the integrity of the review process.
