Off-duty officer involved in crash that shut down EB 10 Freeway in West Covina
An off-duty police officer was involved in a multi-vehicle crash that closed all lanes of the eastbound 10 Freeway in West Covina early Monday, creating a major backup for morning commuters. The collision was reported around 5 a.m. near Azusa Avenue, prompting the California Highway Patrol to issue a SigAlert soon after. A spokesperson said the CHP received reports that an officer in a personal vehicle was involved in the crash. No information was immediately available on the conditions of anyone involved in the crash. Sky5 arrived over the scene at 5:53 a.m., where all lanes were still closed as a tow truck worked to remove the final wrecked vehicle. Traffic remained stacked up to Sunset Avenue. Investigators are still working to determine what caused the crash. All lanes reopened shortly after 6 a.m.
