WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A 29-year-old man has died after he was involved in a dirt bike crash early Monday morning in Woonsocket. In press release Wednesday, police said the man was a passenger on a dirt bike being operated by Leonel Nunez Tavarez. Nunez Tavarez, 32, lost control of the bike and crashed into a retaining wall on Transit Street, according to police. When officers responded to the scene just after 2 a.m., they found Nunez Tavarez suffering from a serious leg injury and his passenger unresponsive. First responders conducted CPR on the passenger until an ambulance arrived to take both of them to Rhode Island Hospital. The passenger died from his injuries on Tuesday, police said. As of Wednesday, Nunez Tavarez was still at the hospital, but stable. Police allege Nunez Tavarez was impaired at the time of the crash, and they also said that neither he nor his passenger were wearing helmets. Nunez Tavarez is being charged with driving under the influence resulting in death, driving to endanger resulting in death, and driving without a license.
