Numerous car accidents in Alameda County caused by dense fog

The California Highway Patrol announced on Friday that Vasco Road in Alameda County was closed due to multiple car accidents and heavy fog. The closure affected both directions of the road on the Livermore and Brentwood sides. The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District reported a total of four accidents on Vasco Road, where foggy conditions limited visibility to a quarter mile. Around 1:20 p.m., a fire captain was injured by a vehicle while responding to one of the incidents and was taken to the hospital with a lower extremity injury. Drivers are cautioned by the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District to reduce speed in the area. Fortunately, CHP reported at 4:00 p.m. that Vasco Road had been reopened.
