Above video: Examining airline safety. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued a preliminary report on a fatal plane crash near Irvington on Dec. 13. The report reveals that an American Champion Decathlon aircraft crashed into a dense wooded area only a quarter mile from its takeoff runway at Roy E Ray Airport. The crash occurred at 11:45 a.m., shortly after takeoff. Security footage from a nearby residence captured the plane departing from the runway and the subsequent crash just 15 seconds later. The NTSB report stated that the plane was found in a nose-dive position with broken tree branches above the main wreckage. The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, tragically passed away from the injuries sustained in the crash.
