17-year-old high school senior identified as victim killed in Highland County crash
Police say that a 17-year-old high school student is dead after a crash at an intersection in Highland County on Friday afternoon.According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 131 and State Route 134 in Salem Township.Investigators say the crash occurred when a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2009 Pontiac G5 collided after the driver of the Pontiac failed to yield at a stop sign at the intersection. Both vehicles then went off the road after the collision and hit a nearby barn. The driver of the Pontiac, 17-year-old Brice Lynch, died at the scene of the crash after being ejected from his vehicle, according to OSHP.Police say the other driver involved was taken to Mount Orab Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.In a post on Facebook on Saturday, Adams County Ohio Valley Schools confirmed that Lynch was a student of the school district who was enrolled at Ohio Valley Career and Technical Center prior to his death."It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that one of our CTC students, Brice Lynch, a 17-year-old senior from Seaman, Ohio, tragically lost his life in a car accident yesterday afternoon," the district wrote in a statement. "This loss is deeply felt throughout our school community. Our thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with the student’s family, friends, classmates, teachers, and everyone affected by this tragedy during this incredibly difficult time.""The well-being of our students and staff remains our highest priority," the statement continued. "Grief counselors and additional support services are available for anyone who may need assistance. Students, families, and staff members are encouraged to reach out for support by calling 937-544-5586, extension 17120. We ask our community to keep the student’s family in your thoughts and prayers and to respect their privacy as they grieve this unimaginable loss. We will continue to provide support to our students and staff in the days ahead."OSHP was helped at the scene by the Lynchburg Fire and EMS and the Highland County Coroner’s Office. An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
