Crash on Route 6 kills 2 near Westport

Two people were killed after a two-car head on crash on Route 6 near the Dartmouth-Westport line Friday night, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. The DA’s office identified the victims as 34-year-old Tristan Bedient of Acushnet and 51-year-old Kate Aldrich of New Bedford. According to investigators, a blue Toyota Camry was found with catastrophic damage. Bedient, who was driving the vehicle, and Aldrich, who was a passenger, were taken to a local hospital where they were later pronounced dead. A second vehicle, a white Saab sedan, was also involved in the crash. The two people inside that vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the DA’s office said. Today, debris and damage were left behind along the roadway. Rui Canito, who works at Eric Letendre's Dog Training School nearby, said he saw the scene shortly after the crash. "I noticed there was yellow tape, so I knew right off the bat that was not a regular everyday accident," Canito said. Canito said he left the area and returned more than an hour later, but crews were still working at the scene. The crash happened along a curved section of Route 6 near the Dartmouth-Westport town line. The cause of the crash and how fast the cars were going still remains under investigation. The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said the investigation is being handled by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the DA’s office, along with Massachusetts State Police, Dartmouth Police and Westport Police.
