Daytona Beach woman, 85, killed in I-95 crash near SR-44, FHP says
An 85-year-old Daytona Beach woman was killed in a crash that shut down all northbound lanes of I-95 near SR-44 early Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. as a 2017 Lincoln Continental and a 2014 Kia Soul were traveling northbound in the center lane of I-95 before the SR-44 exit.FHP said the Kia was traveling ahead of the Lincoln when the 42-year-old Edgewater man driving the Lincoln hit the back of the Kia.The impact caused the Lincoln to run off the road onto the outside shoulder, while the Kia traveled off the road to the left into the median.The 42-year-old Lincoln driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.The driver of the Kia, an 85-year-old Daytona Beach woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.The crash temporarily shut down all northbound lanes of I-95, with drivers diverted off the interstate at SR-442 (Indian River Boulevard).The lanes reopened five hours after the crash happened.The crash is under investigation.
