1 dead, 2 taken to the hospital after 3-car crash in rural Colleton County: SCHP

One person is dead and two others were transported to a local area hospital after a three-car crash Friday morning in Colleton County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. At the intersection of Jefferies Highway and Academy Road around 8 a.m., a Chevrolet sedan and a Nissan SUV were stopped and facing south when a Toyota sedan, traveling south on Jefferies Highway, struck the Chevrolet, which then hit the Nissan, Cpl. Nick Pye said in a statement. The driver of the 2013 Chevrolet sedan was taken to the hospital along with the driver of the 2017 Nissan. The driver of the 2015 Toyota sustained fatal injuries at the scene of the crash, Pye said. The Colleton County Coroner's Office has yet to identify the deceased. News 4 reached out to the coroner for further information regarding the crash. Investigators at the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing to research the cause of the crash.
