New Orleans police investigating deadly crash involving pedestrian in the Treme neighborhood

The New Orleans Police Department is investigating a deadly crash in the Treme neighborhood.The crash happened around 11:57 a.m. at the intersection of Toulouse Street and North Claiborne Avenue. Police said a 62-year-old woman was riding her bike when she stopped to wait for traffic to clear so she could cross Claiborne.According to police, a car in the right-hand lane heading east on N. Claiborne stopped to allow her to cross; however, the car in the left lane did not stop because its view was obstructed by the stopped car.New Orleans EMS was called, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.Both drivers remained on scene. Investigators say the driver who struck the victim did not appear to be impaired or speeding. No citations have been issued at this time.This is an ongoing investigation.The cause of death and victim identification will be made by the Orleans Parish coroner upon notification of the next of kin.Police say an unknown woman was attempting to cross the street when she was hit by a car.
