Nevada Highway Patrol identifies victim of fatal crash on I-80

ELKO COUNTY, Nevada (ABC4) — Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the victim of a fatal crash that occurred last week near Wells. According to Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), on February 10, they responded to reports of a crash on Interstate 80 near milepost 65, near Wells, Nevada. The initial investigation revealed that a gray Ram truck was traveling westbound in the right lane of I-80. The Ram truck failed to maintain its travel lane and ran off the right side of the road, before re-entering the westbound lanes, crossing both lanes of traffic, and then ran off the left side of the road. Afterwards, the truck then abruptly came back onto the roadway and overturned, ultimately coming to rest on its wheels on the right dirt shoulder. NHP identified the driver of the truck as 57-year-old Tobert John Klang, of Deeth, Nevada. He reportedly sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. The crash is still under investigation by Nevada highway Patrol and the Major Incident Reconstruction team (MIRT). At this time, they have not disclosed what led to the crash. However, NHP is asking anyone who witnessed this incident or has information on this crash to contact the NHP Elo Office at (775)753-1111 or email [email protected]. Notably, this is one of two fatal crashes that NHP has investigated in 2026.
