Names released for Wednesday fatal crash near Mitchell

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) - The names of two people that died in a Wednesday crash near Mitchell have been released. A news release from the South Dakota Department of Public Safety says a 2018 Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 between the two Mitchell exits when the vehicle entered the south ditch and struck a guard cable near an upcoming bridge over Rowley Street. The vehicle fell onto Rowley Street, where it struck a retaining wall, and came to rest on its side. The driver, 34-year-old Shane Tyler Willis, and a passenger, 38-year-old Melynda Jean Willis of Pierre, died from their injuries sustained in the crash. Two infant passengers sustained minor injuries. All occupants were wearing seat belts. A vigil celebrating the lives of Shane and Melynda Willis has been scheduled to be held on Tuesday, May 5, at 6 p.m. at the Steamboat Park Picnic Pavilion in Pierre, SD.
