MSP: 2 teenagers killed in crash near Six Lakes

BELVIDERE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — State police say two 17-year-olds were killed in a crash in the Six Lakes area Thursday night. It happened around 11:10 p.m. on M-46 near Derby Road. According to the Michigan State Police, a westbound vehicle driven by a 49-year-old Grandville man rear-ended a westbound Chevrolet Cruze, which was carrying two 17-year-olds. The Chevrolet spun into the eastbound lanes of M-46, where it was hit by an eastbound Ford F-150 and then T-boned by an eastbound Chevrolet Traverse, MSP said. Both 17-year-olds died of their injuries, according to troopers. Their names were not immediately released. State police identified the drivers of the eastbound cars as a husband and wife from Saginaw, who were driving separately. The wife, who was driving the Chevrolet Traverse, was taken to the hospital to be treated. Everyone else was checked out on scene. Troopers believe alcohol was involved for the driver who rear-ended the teenagers, they told News 8. They continue to investigate. From late Thursday night to early Friday morning, a total of seven people were killed in separate crashes across West Michigan. Around 1 a.m. Friday, a wrong-way crash on I-196 in Grand Rapids killed two drivers. There was another wrong-way crash around 3:25 a.m. on I-96 in Ottawa County, which left three people dead.
