Motorcyclist seriously injured in hit-and-run crash: CSPD

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A vehicle drove away from the scene of a crash after it clipped a motorcycle, causing the rider to be thrown from the bike and injured on Saturday, July 25, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). CSPD reported that at around 1:20 p.m. on Saturday, several calls came in reporting a hit-and-run crash between a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle on the Austin Bluffs Parkway bridge over North Union Boulevard. The initial investigation showed that both the car and the motorcycle had been going eastbound on Austin Bluffs when the car clipped the motorcycle, causing the rider to be thrown from the bike. The Car sped off from the scene of the crash while bystanders helped treat the motorcycle rider until medical personnel arrived, according to CSPD. The motorcyclist, who had been wearing a helmet, was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries that were suspected to be serious but not life-threatening. The Major Crash Team took over the investigation, and all traffic was temporarily diverted onto Union Boulevard while the accident investigation took place. According to CSPD, neither drugs, alcohol, nor speed are being considered a factor at this time.
