1 dead in state Route 58 crash in Lorain County
NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio (WJW) -- A 40-year-old Wellington man died in an early Sunday, July 26, crash on state Route 58, according to the state patrol. It happened just after 12:30 a.m. on state Route 58, north of Webster Road, in Pittsfield Township, Lorain County, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The driver of a sedan headed south on state Route 58 failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into the northbound lane then went off the east side of the roadway, where it struck a ditch and flipped over, according to the release. The driver was transported to a hospital, where he later died, according to the release. Officials identified him as Eric L. Purdy, 40, of Wellington. The crash remains under investigation.
