South Bend woman charged after alleged drunk driving crash into semi on Toll Road

A South Bend woman is behind bars after police say she crashed into a semi while driving drunk Saturday afternoon on the Toll Road. Indiana State Police say they received a call about an erratic driver near mile marker 85 just before 2 p.m. Just minutes later, they received a report a vehicle matching the one in the erratic driving complaint had crashed into a semi near mile marker 79. Police say 32-year-old Destiny Gritzmaker ran into the back of a semi trailer in the right lane. Officials say Gritzmaker showed signs of impairment while speaking with them. She was sent to the hospital for an impairment test, as well as to be treated for injuries from the crash. Once she was cleared, Gritzmaker was arrested and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail, where she faces a charge of Operating While Intoxicated - Endangerment. Police say the semi driver was unhurt in the crash. Indiana State Police say this was one of three operating while intoxicated arrests made on the Toll Road on Saturday alone.
