Motorcyclist killed in crash on south side of Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on the south side of Indianapolis Monday night. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 3100 block of South East Street around 8:45 p.m. to investigate a crash. When police arrived at the scene, they located a motorcycle and a black vehicle that appeared to have been involved in a crash. After a preliminary investigation, police determined the motorcyclist was travelling northbound on South East Street at a high rate of speed before the crash occurred. The driver of the black vehicle was moving westbound across South East Street prior to the crash. The motorcycle and black vehicle ultimately collided on South East Street. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. IMPD identified the motorcyclist as an adult male. Police reported that the driver of the black vehicle sustained a "slight injury" during the crash. The driver was evaluated by medics and is expected to be OK. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. The driver of the black vehicle involved in the crash will still be subjected to chemical testing in compliance with state law. Monday's incident marks the fourth fatal crash Marion County law enforcement has responded to since Saturday. On Saturday night, a man was struck and killed by a person driving an SUV in the 5300 block of North High School Road. Two other pedestrians were killed in Marion County crashes on Sunday. A 6-year-old was struck and killed by a motorist along East Washington Street in Cumberland early Sunday morning. Police arrested a 22-year-old for his alleged role in the crash. A pedestrian in a wheelchair was killed in a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of East Raymond and Shelby Streets Sunday night. Police have not announced any arrests related to that crash yet. "Well, you know one thing, it's summer, more people are out," IMPD Night Watch Captain Rob Rider said during a media briefing Monday night. "My message to the public is we all share these roads together. Every driver out here plays some type of responsibility in the safety on our streets. So, I would just urge everyone to slow down, pay attention, don't be on your phone, look out for each other so that everyone can arrive at their destination safely.
