Mother dead after being hit by vehicle in Elkhart; 2-year-old hospitalized
A mother was killed after being struck by a car in Elkhart on Thursday night. The 28-year-old mother, now identified as Norma Sanchez Mateos, died due to her injuries. Police were called to the 3300 block of South Nappanee Street for reports of a crash with injuries. Initial investigation found a car struck a mother and her child as they were crossing the street after 11:30 p.m. First responders gave first aid at the scene and transported the 2-year-old child to the hospital for treatment of a head injury. The child appeared to be in stable condition. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated. The incident remains under investigation.
