Mobile police: Man was driving 119 MPH before deadly crash that killed Stacey Neese
MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A Mount Vernon man is charged with manslaughter after Mobile Police said he was driving more than 100 miles per hour before a deadly crash on Airport Boulevard. The crash killed 54-year-old Stacey Neese, who was on her way to work. Neese’s brother, Jake May, said he remembers Stacey as someone who brought joy to everyone around her. "She always smiles, no matter what she was going through," May said. "She always was smiling. She had a glow on her like no other, I promise you that." May said Neese was heading to work early the morning of May 14. "She was on her way to do some (office work) early that morning because she usually don't get up that early in the morning," said May. According to Mobile Police, 32-year-old Clifton Land IV was driving 119 miles per hour in a 45-mph zone when his Dodge Charger crashed into Neese’s vehicle. Investigators said Neese was attempting to enter westbound traffic on Airport Boulevard near Willow Brook Run East when the crash happened. "There's no reason for anyone to be going that fast, down any road in Mobile, Alabama," May said. Police arrested Land on Thursday and charged him with manslaughter. "Something's got to be done about reckless driving, speeding in Mobile," said May. Now, as the family grieves, May said they hope Neese’s death brings more awareness to reckless driving in Mobile. "My sister, I know, would want to, would tell us to forgive this guy, but either way, he needs to face the consequences of his actions 100%,” May said.
