Missouri, Arkansas among worst states for single-vehicle motorcycle fatalities

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A new report shows Missouri and Arkansas among the deadliest for motorcyclists hurt in single-vehicle cycle crashes. In Missouri, an average of almost 70 people died each year from 2020 to 2024 in motorcycle crashes involving only the cycle, according to an analysis by Steve Gimblin Personal Injury & Car Accident Lawyers. In Arkansas, an average of about 38 people died in single-vehicle cycle crashes during those years. And the deaths per 100,000 residents put Arkansas as fourth-deadliest in the nation, behind Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota. Missouri is the fifth-deadliest in the country on a per capita basis. The analysis based on data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System reports 347 motorcyclists died in Missouri in single-vehicle crashes during the five-year period, a rate 1.4 times higher than the national average and 3.2 times higher than the safest state, New Jersey.
