A Taylor County man has been indicted on an intoxication manslaughter charge after investigators said he caused a crash that killed another driver while he was intoxicated. According to court documents, 21-year-old Miguel Angel Casanova is accused of failing to stop at a stop sign on April 21, 2026, before driving into an intersection and colliding with a semi-truck. Troopers responding to the scene found the pickup with severe front-end and burn damage, while the semi-truck had damage to its trailer. Investigators said physical evidence, witness statements, driver interviews and dash camera footage from the semi-truck all indicated Casanova failed to yield before the collision. Court records state investigators found several pill bottles inside the semi-truck that did not match their prescription labels. Troopers also reported that Casanova appeared disheveled, had slurred speech and made incoherent statements, telling them he did not remember the crash or what had happened. An indictment is a formal accusation and is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
