Midland man killed after truck crash sparks fire on SH 349
MARTIN COUNTY — A Midland man is dead following a fatal two-vehicle collision in which one vehicle caught fire. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the collision occurred at about 10:10 a.m. April 28 along State Highway 349 at mile marker 306. Adrian Ortiz Cano, 43, of Midland, was pronounced dead at the scene. DPS said preliminary information indicated a 2020 Peterbilt with a towed trailer was traveling north on SH 349. A 2006 Freightliner with a trailer was traveling north behind the Peterbilt. DPS said the driver of the Peterbilt was attempting to make a right turn onto a private road when the driver of the Freightliner failed to control his speed and collided with the trailer of the Peterbilt. After the collision, the Freightliner caught fire. The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information has been released.
