Man injured in motorcycle crash west of downtown Fort Wayne
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- A man has life-threatening injuries after he crashed his motorcycle west of downtown Fort Wayne, which has congested traffic. Just before 6 p.m., a crash involving a motorcycle happened near the intersection of W Jefferson Boulevard and Catalpa Street, according to a press release from Fort Wayne Police. They said several callers had told them a motorcycle left the roadway and crashed. When officers arrived, they found the motorcycle partially up the side of the railway overpass. The driver, a man, was taken to a hospital in life-threatening condition. The Fort Wayne Crash Team responded to the scene because of how severe the driver's injuries were. A WANE 15 crew member at the scene observed approximately 10 police vehicles. Officers told WANE 15 that speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. At this time, it is uncertain if alcohol is a factor as well. Officers said the driver may have taken the curve too quickly and exited the roadway, and crashed into the trees. The eastbound lane of W Jefferson Boulevard was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
