Man arrested in fatal 2024 wrong-way crash in Lake County

A 51-year-old Eustis man was arrested for a wrong-way crash on State Road 44 west of Hammond Lane that left one motorcyclist dead and another injured in November 2024, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.On Friday, Michael David Davis, Eustis, was arrested on a warrant and booked into the Lake County Jail. According to the report, a 2017 Ram 2500, driven by Davis, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of State Road 44.Two motorcycles, a 2024 Harley Davidson Sportster and a 2003 Suzuki VL800K, were traveling eastbound on the same road. The front of Davis' vehicle struck the front of the Harley Davidson, killing its rider, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.The rider of the Suzuki swerved and laid the motorcycle down on the roadway, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries and being transported to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital. Davis was not transported from the scene, the report said.He's being charged with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
