Major Car Accident Interstate 8 (Kumeyaay Highway) near Pine Valley
PINE VALLEY, Calif. (March 24, 2026) — A multi-vehicle crash with major injuries was reported Tuesday morning on westbound Interstate 8 near a checkpoint east of Pine Valley in San Diego County, authorities said. The collision was first reported at about 8:37 a.m. on March 24th near the checkpoint, where initial reports indicated a red truck and at least one other vehicle were involved. California Highway Patrol dispatch logs suggested one vehicle struck the center divider, with additional reports of up to three vehicles connected to the crash. An automated iPhone crash notification also alerted authorities to the incident, prompting a response from CHP patrol officers and fire personnel. By about 8:54 a.m., responders were en route to the scene, navigating from the Buckman Springs area. Officials later confirmed the crash was blocking the slow lane of westbound I-8. Tow services were requested for at least two vehicles, and authorities later upgraded the incident to a major-injury collision. The extent of injuries and the number of people hurt were not immediately released. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Got Legal Questions?
