Lake Worth man, 77, dies weeks after crashing into palm tree, PBSO says
A Lake Worth man died from injuries sustained in a crash earlier this month after his vehicle struck a palm tree in a parking lot. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said that Richard L. Preston, 77, died on June 28 at 6:45 a.m. The crash occurred on June 10 at about 2:59 p.m. near 6080 S. Congress Ave. in Lake Worth south of Lantana Road. PBSO classified the case as a delayed traffic fatality. According to the sheriff's office, Preston was driving a 2017 Jeep south through a parking lot on the west side of the property when he mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. Investigators said the Jeep jumped a curb and crashed head-on into a palm tree.
