Kingsport man charged with vehicular homicide after fatal crash
JONESBOROUGH — Alfonso Vasquez-Morales, 33, of Kingsport, has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication after a Tuesday afternoon crash on Highway 107 near Jackson Bridge. Washington County Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash shortly after 2 p.m. that day, according to a press release. The investigation revealed that the vehicle Vasquez-Morales' was driving crossed into the opposite lane and struck a motorcycle head on, resulting in fatal injuries for that driver, William Richard Sauer. The 69-year-old man, a Brooksville, Florida resident, died on the scene as a result of his injuries. According to the news release, a 911 caller told dispatchers that Vasquez-Morales' vehicle almost hit a car head on near the Nolichucky Fire Department. Witnesses told officers that he was weaving in and out of traffic before the crash. He also told deputies that he drank "six or seven beers" before driving.Deputies have also charged Vasquez-Morales with the following: Driving on right side of the roadway No driver's license Reckless driving Financial responsibility law Introduction of contraband into a penal facility Possession of methamphetamine Vasquez-Morales' bond was set at $125,000 and will appear in court today. Immigration Customs Enforcement did put a hold on the man. The investigation is ongoing and more charges may be forthcoming, according to the sheriff's office.
