Kansas man commended for brave actions during boat mishap

A man from Tescott in Kansas was recently recognized as the Kansas Sheriff's Association's 2025 Citizen of the Year for his brave actions in rescuing a young girl's life. Last summer, while visiting Kanopolis Lake, Daryl Lee spotted 14-year-old Regan Dalke in distress in the water after a boating accident had tragically taken the lives of her father and best friend. Immediately jumping in to save her, Lee's heroic act was celebrated as he received the award in Ellsworth, where Dalke and her mother were present to honor him. Lee humbly credits Dalke as the real hero for her survival before they have continued to meet regularly since the incident.
