Jury finds Randy Vega guilty in Frazier Avenue crash that killed mother and son
A Hamilton County jury has decided the fate of Randy Vega, the man accused of vehicular homicide in a crash on Frazier Avenue that killed a mother and her young child. Jurors began deliberating Monday afternoon after hearing closing arguments regarding the crash that killed Ana Posso and her 11-month-old son Jonathan Paz. The jury found Randy Vega guilty on all counts, including: Reckless homicide Vehicular homicide by intoxication Vehicular homicide by reckless conduct Assault Reckless aggravated assault Reckless endangerment DUI The case has centered on a question both sides agree is critical: what caused Vega's minivan to leave the roadway, strike a building and crash into a family of three on Nov. 25, 2023. Prosecutors argued the evidence showed Vega was intoxicated, driving recklessly and made a dangerous lane change that set the crash in motion. Defense attorneys argued Chattanooga doctor Patrick McGinty's actions were the true cause of the collision and repeatedly pointed to McGinty's own statements about accelerating before the crash. You can read more about the closing arguments here. Vega's sentencing date has been set for August 10th.
