Judge sets $20,000 bond for woman in fatal Chesapeake car crash
CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) - A Chesapeake judge granted a $20,000 bond Tuesday for a woman accused of striking and killing a man with her car. Kimberly Horton faces charges of involuntary manslaughter, and under the influence-vehicular, in connection with the death of David Wade, who was killed last summer at a gas station on South Military Highway. Police said another man struck in this incident suffered minor injuries. The bond was issued following a court hearing on March 10. WAVY was present in the courtroom for the proceedings. Defense Attorney Diane Toscano addressed the court regarding her client's health and the circumstances of the incident. Toscano told the judge that Horton has Multiple Sclerosis and was taking medication at the time of the crash. According to the defense, Horton decided to drive that day to assist her husband. Toscano stated Horton was bringing her husband back from a colonoscopy appointment because he was physically unable to drive himself. Toscano also noted that her client has no prior criminal record. Despite the bond being granted, the judge imposed several strict conditions for Horton's release. As part of the $20,000 bond, Horton's driver's license was revoked. She is also required to remain under home confinement while the case proceeds. A date for the next court appearance has not yet been set.
