Joplin teen motorcyclist dies in collision with pickup truck
JOPLIN, Mo. — A 19-year-old Joplin motorcyclist was killed in a crash west of Diamond Sunday afternoon. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 2:00 P.M. Sunday on Elder Road about five miles west of Diamond. Authorities say Gavin McKinney, 19, of Joplin, was driving his motorcycle westbound when he crossed the center of the roadway and struck a pickup truck driven by a Diamond man, 63. The pickup truck driver had no reported injuries, but his pickup truck sustained moderate damage. McKinney was later pronounced dead at a Joplin hospital. The crash was the 61st fatal crash in Missouri for 2026, according to MSHP.
