ICE says Pitt County fatal crash suspect is not person sought by agency, sheriff's office
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement determined a man charged in a fatal crash in Pitt County earlier this year is not the person the agency was seeking, according to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office said Ilder Aguilar-Velazquez, who was charged with felony death by vehicle following an April 4 crash, posted bond after his arrest. According to the sheriff's office, jail records note that ICE was contacted during the booking process. However, the agency later determined Aguilar-Velazquez was not the individual it was attempting to locate after comparing photographs. The crash happened April 4 on N.C. 43 near Falkland. Authorities said the crash claimed the life of Janet Little. Aguilar-Velazquez was charged with felony death by vehicle in connection with the crash. The update comes after the Pitt County Sheriff's Office confirmed that ICE had issued an immigration detainer for Jaime Santiago Corona, the Ayden man charged in a separate fatal crash that killed 6-year-old Calli Toler on July 3. No additional information has been released.
