Houston firefighters and truck driver injured in Montgomery County collision
Four Houston firefighters were taken to a hospital after their firetruck was hit by an 18-wheeler on the Eastex Freeway in Montgomery County early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. at the Highway 59 North entrance ramp at Northpark Drive. The firefighters were responding to a previous traffic accident and had their vehicle blocking traffic when the 18-wheeler collided with the truck. Both the firefighters and the 18-wheeler driver were hospitalized with injuries. It is reported that the firefighters are expected to recover from their injuries. The crew members identified by Houston Mayor John Whitmire are Ben Abbott, Colbey Bailey, and Jason Thompson. The cause of the accident is still under investigation by Houston Police. Additional individuals involved in the crash have not been named.
