Homeowner ‘just grateful to be alive’ after car crashes into Green Valley Ranch home
DENVER (KDVR) — A driver lost control and crashed into a Green Valley Ranch home, destroying the garage on Saturday. William Renkel was having his morning coffee just before 11:30 a.m. when, all of a sudden, he heard a loud boom. "I couldn't tell if it was, maybe something dropped off an airplane," he said. Renkel rushed to his front door, but it was jammed shut. He said a Toyota RAV4 had careened down the street, jumped the curb, hit a small tree, and then crashed through his garage door. "There was a bumper, things like that, here on the driveway. There was leaking fluid here down the driveway," he said. First responders quickly arrived. Renkel said he saw them use the Jaws of Life tool to work their way through the mangled garage door so they could save the driver. "They were just swarming around him, the car, they broke the window when they got here to try to help get him out," he said. It was a costly close call for Renkel, who will have to repair his front and garage doors, the home's siding, and other damage, but he says he is thankful he decided not to get any work done in the garage that morning. "I'm just grateful to be alive," he said. Denver police said no injuries are reported, and the case is still under investigation. The driver has not been identified.
