Highway 86 in Colorado shut down due to fatal accident, according to CSP.
A tragic head-on collision has led to the closure of Colorado Highway 86 between Kiowa and Elizabeth, as reported by the Kiowa Fire Protection District. The incident occurred around 6:35 a.m. on Monday, seven miles east of Kiowa. The road closure is still in effect, with detours available via Interstate 70 or U.S. Highway 24. The Colorado State Patrol estimates that the rescue and investigation efforts may take up to two hours. The crash involved a 1993 Dodge pickup and a 2022 Ford SUV. Unfortunately, the 45-year-old male driver of the Dodge lost his life, while the 68-year-old female driver of the Ford sustained serious injuries. The cause of the collision is currently under investigation. The Dodge driver, who was found deceased at the scene, had drugs in his possession and was not wearing a seatbelt. The investigators have not specified the type of drugs involved or whether the driver was under the influence at the time of the incident. The crash site is approximately 45 miles southeast of Denver.
