Hawaii Island sees fifth and sixth traffic fatalities of 2026
HAWAII ISLAND, Hawaii (KHON2) -- Two people are dead following an afternoon crash in South Hilo on Friday, May 15. It happened on Daniel K. Inouye Highway between mile markers 13 and 14 around 4 p.m.. Roads were closed in both directions but reopened a few hours later. KHON2 is still awaiting information from the police on what happened during the crash. This marks Hawaii Island's fifth and sixth traffic fatalities in recent weeks, and pushes the total so far this year to 11.
