Gun being pointed at cars reportedly led to multi-county police chase, car crash on I-69

GRANT COUNTY, Ind. — Grant County police say a gun being pointed out of a car window Monday resulted in a multi-county chase on Interstate 69 that ended in a car crash. The Grant County Sheriff's Office has arrested two men, Dontrell Cole and Cameron Perry, in connection with the incident. The suspects are now being held in jail on preliminary felony charges, including intimidation with a deadly weapon. The incident reportedly began around 8:50 a.m. when deputies were dispatched to the 1900 block of E. 38th in Marion on report of two men chasing someone in a car. The 911 caller said the suspects pointed a gun at them. Deputies soon saw the suspect vehicle, a gray Chevrolet Malibu, and tried to conduct a traffic stop near 400 East. However, the driver reportedly stopped only for a moment before fleeing "as soon as a deputy exited his vehicle." GCSO deputies, along with Indiana State Troopers and other local officers, began to chase the Chevy into Gas City and then southbound onto I-69. The pursuit reportedly hit speeds of over 100 mph several times and crossed through three counties: Grant, Delaware and Madison. The chase reportedly ended near mile marker 218 when the Chevy crashed into the back of a trailer being pulled by an uninvolved car. Two suspects were reportedly inside the car, with Cole in the driver's seat and Perry riding as a passenger. In a release sent Monday night, Grant County Sheriff Del Garcia said that no one was injured in the chase or crash. Officials said a loaded gun, identified as a Century Arms Mini DRACO AK Semi-Auto Pistol, was found inside the crashed car. A photo of the gun, provided by Sheriff Garcia, can be seen below: Both men who were found inside the vehicle were arrested and booked into the Grant County Jail on the following preliminary charges: Formal charges have not yet been filed as of this article's publication. No other information was immediately provided by Sheriff Garcia or his office.
