Giraffe in danger dies tragically at zoo
A giraffe born at a South Carolina zoo tragically passed away due to an incident where he got caught in a door. Kiko, the Masai giraffe, was born in 2012 at the Greenville Zoo before moving to the Toronto Zoo. Despite immediate efforts to help him, his injuries proved to be fatal due to the unique anatomy of his species. The Toronto Zoo has launched an investigation into the incident and will share the findings once completed. Kiko, who had been receiving special care for a hoof/foot injury, was known for his offspring with female giraffe Mstari. The zoo is focused on supporting their team during this difficult time and preparing for Mstari's upcoming birth. Masai giraffes are an endangered species, with an estimated 43,000 remaining in the wild. The zoo community mourns the loss of Kiko and remembers him as a beloved giraffe who touched many hearts.
