Football player dies after sled accident
A high school football player from Ponder ISD tragically passed away due to injuries sustained in a sledding accident involving an ATV towing a kayak. The Ponder head football coach confirmed the death of 17-year-old Caden Nowicki on January 29. Nowicki was ejected from the kayak sled, crashing into a fence and sustaining critical injuries. He was later in the intensive care unit. The Ponder community is mourning the loss and providing support to Nowicki's family. Additionally, another sledding accident resulted in the death of a second teenager, Grace Brito, who was also involved in a separate incident. Brito's mother shared that her daughter, who had recently received her driver's license, chose to become an organ donor. Tragically, both accidents have brought grief to the community and highlight the importance of safety and awareness when partaking in winter activities.
