Florida Highway Patrol investigates death in Fort Pierce

A crash involving a FedEx truck and a gas-powered bike in Fort Pierce on Monday afternoon left one person dead, according to police. The driver of the FedEx truck, identified as Rob, said the incident occurred as he was pulling out of a driveway after making a delivery along East Midway. "By the time I looked at that direction, they were already against my truck," Rob said. Rob explained that two children were riding the bike, neither wearing helmets. "Got out, made a drop, got out, got in the truck, turned around, looked over that way," Rob said. "By the time I looked to my right side, he came and nailed me 30, 40 miles an hour." Rob said that the children were not wearing helmets or proper footwear. "No helmet, no shoes, Crocs, worries about no cars," he said. The crash happened around 3 p.m., and Florida Highway Patrol troopers and investigators spent hours reconstructing the scene. "This is an everyday thing over here; they just have no respect for cars, and that’s what happens," Rob said. Visibly emotional, Rob expressed his anxiety about the situation. "Right now, I’m nervous, I’m nervous for the whole situation," he said. Authorities have not yet released the names or ages of the victims, and the condition of the second person on the bike remains unknown.
