No charges to be filed for fatal Folsom light rail station crash
(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office announced that no criminal charges will be filed for the fatal light rail station crash that left a woman dead in Folsom. Around 2:50 p.m. on Jan. 2, a woman later identified as Elinor Steffy, age 22, was at the Iron Point Sacramento Regional Transit station when a car crashed into the platform she was on, before coming to rest on the tracks. Steffy died and another person was taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. On Monday, the district attorney's office announced that no criminal charges will be filed as the driver experienced a medical emergency. "The loss of Elinor Steffy is truly tragic and heartbreaking. As we do in every case involving a loss of life, we approached this review with the utmost care and consideration. After evaluating the full scope of the facts and circumstances, we determined there was insufficient evidence of criminal conduct and that the driver experienced a medical condition. For that reason, we declined to file charges," the district attorney's office said.
